up vote 1 down vote accepted Ok, so I managed to do this. We actually had to earlier this week when cloning to a bigger hard disk. In fact, it's almost mandatory these days and quite simple if you follow the directions exactly. With Windows 7, you can press F8 during boot and turn off the automatic restart on errors so you can actually see what the error is. 8 Cayenne
Although I don't think it's hardware failure as before I did the cloning the disk worked fine as a USB mass storage device.
